Going on a roadie is an amazing way to see a country. From the towns, the people, and the local pit stops you can sort out what a place is like. If you’re like me though these trips can take a turn for the worst if you get hungry, or in my case hangry!
Hangryˈ- haŋɡri/
Adjective / informal
1. bad-tempered or irritable as a result of hunger.
Staying healthy on the road will be easy with these 4 delicious, nutritious, and most importantly, cheap bites on the road.
Bliss Balls
You might be thinking, “wait I thought you said cheap — bliss balls break the bank!” It turns out that making your own bliss balls before a trip is a sweet way to save money on a sweet snack. These things have got everything you need to keep you cool on the road. They’ve got carbs from the oats, protein from the peanut butter, and sugar from the dates. You know that Snickers ad? Yeah, these are better.

Carrots and Hummus
The God of Gains said — let there be a food that is yum, nutritious, and affordable, and so it was — carrots popped up! Carrots are an amazing source of beta-carotene, fiber, vitamin K, potassium and antioxidants. It also turns out that they are the perfect complement to hummus.
Hummus varies and depending on how adventurous you’re feeling, comes it all different types. Supermarkets sell everything from classic, to beetroot, to turmeric. The only downside is supermarkets charge a super amount. To keep costs low try making your own hummus for the road. Start with a basic hummus and by adding one or two things you could end up with something special.

Peanut Butter and Bananas
This is the easiest snack on the list by far. All you need is a jar of peanut butter, a banana, and something to scoop with — this could be a finger if you’re desperate! Peanut butter and bananas are my go to snack when I am on the road.
Peanut butter is experiencing a bit of a renaissance these days. For a long time, it was condemned for the high-fat content. It turns out your body needs the fats that peanut butter has! It is also a fantastic source of plant based protein and will fill you up fast.
Bananas are always a treat, they are nature’s original power bar! They are a great source of vitamin B6, manganese, vitamin C, potassium, dietary fibre, potassium, biotin, and copper. By putting peanut butter on these bad boys (or girls) you are in for something special.
Overnight Oats
Saving the best for last. Overnight oats are a bite to remember when you’re on the road. You can tailor them to match your flavour, they last forever, and they only get better the longer you’ve been driving. At their core, all overnight oats are the same — oatmeal, chia seeds, and the nut milk of your choice. It is at this point that you make them yours. I love adding peanut butter, bananas, and cinnamon to mine and eating them at sunrise.
